What are Traditional Scottish Instruments?

While not all of these instruments originated from Scotland, they were all made symbols of cultural significance from the way Scots used them. Some were weaponised, some were used in ceremonies and some simply form the backbones to music heard at ceilidh’s throughout the country. We’re going to look at the following traditional Scottish instruments:

Bagpipes

Bagpipes are a wind instrument, consisting of; as the name suggests – a bag and pipes! The bag is traditionally made of animal skin, though alternatives are now often used. It’s held between the arm and chest and squeezed. The player then blows into the blowpipe, while playing the correct notes using the finger holes on the chanter. The drones are tuned to the chanter and produce single notes.
